My Letter to Joe Maddon

To Joe Maddon:

Joe,

If you continue to give the fans this crappy lineup card each night, this might explain why the fans don't come to see the Rays at the Trop, being they will see the same ole thing they are used to seeing. Give us fans what WE know would make the Rays fans come and see them. Give us the lineup that WE know will work. Move B.J. Upton down and promote Jason Bartlett to the top on the lineup! Also, add Ben Zobrist to the everyday play list and bring up Matt Joyce so we can see someone actually care about contributing to the Rays, other than the Carl Crawford, Evan Longoria, Ben Zobrist, and Carlos Pena. I guarantee if you (Joe) change the lineup that us fans know will workout better for the team and the fans, then the fans will come and see your team.

Yours truly,

Another Joe, who loves the Rays!

P.S- Just a suggestion:

To further help with attendance at the Trop, make it to where none of the games are available to the area. Having all the home games on local TV gives the fans a choice, which is either stay home and watch the game in comfort or come to the Rays in person. Don't give the fans a choice, make them come see you!

Have a nice Rays day.

My Letter to Joe Maddon

Before the end of the season last year any Red Sox or Yankee game at the Trop was like a home game for those teams. The reason for this is all the transplants in this area from the northern states. Most of the retired people who live here came from your neck of the woods and they still support there teams. I don't blame them for doing that at all, as I would do the same thing. You can't blame the current Rays fans for this small problem. The Rays were losers for so many years, most just didn't care about them. It was the same way with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers until they finally started winning. In time, which it will take a lot of time, the fans will come and they will dominate the others fans. The Red Sox and Yankees have been around for a very long time, and once the Rays win more on a steady pace, the fans will come out, or atleast I hope they will.

You sound like you are a real fan. I just don't see evidence that there are many like you. If I am wrong, I apolgize.
Oh I am a true fan. I have the cowbells to prove it. lol I was an Atlanta Braves fan for many years and I lived through the dismal days of the Braves much longer than the Rays have had. They had an attendance problem too, just as most teams have when there teams don't win a lot. The Marlins have this problem now too. I don't think they had 5,000 people at there stadium on Friday night. That stadium used to be full all the time.

There are many Rays fans. Not as many as I would like to see, but this year alone sales have been the largest of any year of tickets and merchandise. The Rays have built the fans around the youngsters. Once they have grown and had a family of there own, the fanbase will be huge by then. It just takes time and patience, which I have for the team I love so much.

Plus, you being a Red Sox fan, I know why you don't like the Trop.....you don't win here now. lol jk

Thanks for the comments.

Go Rays!

The reason fans aren't attending Rays games is because Rays fans do not exist. They don't exist? Really? I've been a fan of the Rays since 1998, do I not exist? Gee....Tongue out

How many games have you seen at the Trop? I've been to well over 400! Myself, I like the place. How can you talk bad about it so much? I sit in the same section and seat every year. Section 209 if you ever want to come and chat. :)

Only 3. But that was enough for me to dislike it. Fenway Park is nice to watch on TV but I think it is an armpit park too. PNC Park in Pittsburgh is beautiful. If I still lived near Pittsburgh, I would be there all the time (regardless of the minor league baseball they have been playing in Pittsburgh for years).

What the Rays need to spike attendance is a new stadium.
We don't have the money for a stadium. That's part of the problem too. I do know one will be built once this economy gets going again, which the Rays have said repeatedly. If and when it does get built, it better have a retractable roof of some kind, as it rains here like mad, as most of us Floridians know all to well. Heck, it just rained for the last 7 days days in a row and if the Rays had played outside in a stadium not protected by the weather, we would have had 6 games rained out. This is why I like the Trop...not rainouts.

Why would anybody want to watch a game in that monstrosity?

Is the bandwagon empty already? The reason fans aren't attending Rays games is because Rays fans do not exist. Anybody can fill a stadium when you are winning.  What the Rays need to spike attendance is a new stadium. Why would anybody want to watch a game in that monstrosity?  Your team has the best young talent in baseball. Too bad the tires are flat on the bandwagon.
